Pop Art exhibition: “Best exhibition I have ever seen!” (September 2011)

What a good choice Woking turned out to be with the magical Lightbox Gallery. I can’t walk far now so this art centre is an absolute delight to me, under 3 miles from home and with oh so convenient disabled parking too, (and, a lift that works!) As for the exhibits – all just as good as the Tate galleries, or even better as one can take in so much more at a small exhibit. Everything so beautifully displayed and some fascinating shows. Thank you! (September 2011)

Great exhibition! A very pleasant surprise. It popped out at me! Cheerful, playful and nostalgic! (September 2011)

I was amazed by everything. I have been to other special exhibitions before but this is by far the best I’ve been to. THANK YOU! (August 2011)

Yet another fantastic exhibition – thoroughly informative and a positive joy to see (August 2011).

Thank you Lightbox! Thought the Paul Weller exhibition was very relevant to the town (August 2011).

My first visit to The Lightbox. Friendly reception. Interesting building. Many thanks and keep going for many years. We need you (August 2011).

The Lightbox is a credit to those who had the vision for a gallery of world class in Woking. Wonderful exhibition space, imaginative programming and very friendly staff. (February 2011)

I love this project – the variety, quality and freedom of it. I’ve been 3 times and every time I see something new and inspiring. It’s a rich experience. (February 2011)

Both of the exhibitions were delightful and thoughtful. The more you looked at the pictures the more you saw. Heath Robinson was very amusing. These are two of the best exhibitions and it was very enjoyable. (January 2011)

Fascinating – a truly creative project. Particularly enjoyed the artist’s comments. Thank you! (January 2011)

Lovely building, lovely exhibitions, lovely staff. The Ingram collection is very impressive. And the tea in the Bistro is reviving and wonderful! Well done to all involved. (December 2010)

Brilliantly put together, love the different themes every time I came. Also the old classics of printing were nicely displayed. All in all, very happy. (December 2010)

What a discovery! Why, why did we wait so long to come and visit you! Magnificent – everything is ‘perfect’ – exhibitions (children’s books and Ingram collection), architecture, the people all over the gallery, the cafe, etc – very exciting day... (October 2010)

PRESS:

“On an exiguous construction budget of £4.1m, they have designed an ingenious jewel that has immediately become the best building in Woking town centre.” - Stephen Bailey, The Observer, September 2007

“The Lightbox... explodes the common myth that museums and galleries are places in which visitors drift from dusty exhibit to dusty exhibit... . Everything, from the displays to the décor, is eye-catching ... and the welcoming attitude of the staff simply adds to the hospitable atmosphere.” - Katie Dock, Access by Design Magazine, Winter 2007

SCHOOLS:

“How lucky we are in Woking to have such a wonderful new art gallery and museum! I had a wonderful day – an inspiration and really enjoyed helping to run The Big Draw event with many parents and children from The Oaktree School, and my own class, joining in the fun” – Jackie Palmer, Art and Maths Co-ordinator, The Oaktree School.
