Celebrity shoe and bag auction at The Lightbox for Shooting Star CHASE
Until 17 July
The Lightbox, Woking, Surrey
TV Presenter and former Captain of the England Football Team, Gary Lineker and TV and Radio Presenter, Fearne Cotton are amongst a number of celebrities taking part in a celebrity handbag and shoes auction in association with Surrey Life, at The Lightbox, in aid of Shooting Star CHASE.
The silent auction, being held at The Lightbox gallery and museum, is part of the fascinating free exhibition Essential Accessories: Handbags and Heels, which charts the history of these two most essential but exquisite items from the 16th Century to the latest ‘must-have’ designs.
Other celebrities taking part include Born Free founder Virginia McKenna and Strictly star Camilla Dallerup who has donated her shoes from her stint in the jungle for I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
The exhibition brings together important loans from The Museum of Handbags and Purses in Amsterdam; housing the biggest collection of handbags in the world, with key objects from the Shoe Collection at Northampton; the largest collection of shoe heritage in the world. It offers a unique insight into the evolution of these most essential of accessories and is the first time that the objects from the Museum of Handbags and Purses have been seen in the UK.
Shooting Star CHASE is a local children’s hospice service, a charity caring for over 500 life-limited children, teenagers and their families living in Western London, Surrey and West Sussex. Shooting Star CHASE are committed to caring for families and are there for every step of the journey, sharing the good times, and helping them through the tough times with practical, nursing and emotional support. Families receive support from Shooting Star CHASE free of charge, 365 days a year in their own homes and communities and at the children’s hospices. With no guaranteed Government funding they must raise £23,000 a day to continue their vital service.
Desirable items such as a pair of Umbro football boots signed by Gary Linekar and a beautiful pair of limited edition Sergio Rossi Puma, purple satin sneakers signed by Fearne Cotton, will be available for visitors to bid for.
Visitors to the exhibition are invited to submit bids by completing a form at The Lightbox. The items in the silent auction will be on display at The Lightbox until 17 July. To find out more visit www.thelightbox.org.uk
