The area around Woking is full of things to do, whether you’re searching for more heritage and culture, excellent entertainment, beautiful countryside, fantastic shopping opportunities or fun activities for the kids. Why not combine a trip to The Lightbox with a visit to one of these other local attractions?

Shopping opportunities are provided by The Peacocks centre and Wolsey Place, as well as a host of other streets around the town centre. Entertainment is also close by, with The Ambassador’s New Victoria Theatre and Cinemas directly opposite The Lightbox on Victoria Way. Activities for families can be found in The Big Apple in Crown Square, central Woking or at the Leisure Centre and Pool in Old Woking.
As you’re walking around the town, those seeking out some heritage should keep an eye out for the unusual town gates on the east side of Town Square, built in 1992 to celebrate Woking’s rich and varied past. Don’t miss the Martian in Crown Square either, a sculpture commemorating past Woking resident and father of science fiction, HG Wells who used Horsell Common of the alien invasion in his 1898 novel ‘War of the Worlds’.
Slightly further afield, the beautiful Shah Jehan Mosque was the first to be built in the country. Brookwood Cemetery on the way to Bagshot has a rich history, with some beautiful and quite unique Victorian, Muslim and Zoroastrian memorials and graves.
Near Woking
The area around Woking contains some historic towns and beautiful countryside dotted with many cultural attractions. Perhaps the nearest of these are Brooklands Museum of Aviation and Motorsport in Weybridge, or the internationally renown RHS gardens in Wisley. For those in search of more art, Guildford House Gallery and the Watts Gallery are not too far away either.
If you like animals, good family activities nearby include Bocketts Farm in Bookham, Burpham Court Farm Park near Guildford, and Birdworld/Underwaterworld near Farnham.
Nearby country parks include Clandon, Hatchlands and Painshill, one of the finest 18thC landscaped gardens in Europe. Another Surrey gem is Denbies Vineyard in Dorking where you can relax with wine tasting or a tour. The house and grounds at Polesden Lacey in Bookham, popular with families, is also worth a mention. Last but not least, the Basingstoke Canal, which runs alongside The Lightbox, has a number of walks along the towpath and a visitor’s centre further down at Mytchett.
